Mesa Arts Center: Keeping Downtown Colorful

The Mesa Arts Center in Downtown Mesa, Arizona, is located on the corners of Main St. and Center St. The Mesa Arts Center has been serving the community since 2005. They have 4 different galleries with numerous installations. The largest gallery is the “Wilson and Ruby Dobson Main Gallery” which is 2,400 square feet. The “South Gallery” containing a lot of international art is the second largest space for exhibitions at 1,400 square feet. The “SRP Permanent Collection Gallery” and “North Gallery” collectively make up another 1,000 square feet.

Gretchen Townsend a local and self-proclaimed “frequent-flyer” of the Downtown Mesa Arts Center says “I love to paint and get artsy in my spare time. Here at the arts center, I am able to see what other artists have done and support them as well. Speaking of supporting local artists you should check out the “North Gallery” after they open again. That’s where all of the great local exhibitions are!”

On top of the amazing local art, there are many shows as well. These shows may be local performing theatre troupes, The Blue Man Group, STOMP, and even Puddles the Clown from Puddles Pity Party performed at the Mesa Arts Center. A lot of these shows, most people from around the world have probably heard of.

Much of this will be put on hold for now though until the gallery opens again on September 9th. This closure is due to maintenance of the Campus. With the re-opening on the 9th, there will be a premier event showcasing all the new fall exhibitions.

However, you don’t even need to go inside the galleries or theatre to enjoy Mesa Arts Center because the building is a work of art. There are amazing building enclosures that give the building a look like none other. Numerous architectural installations and water features dot the campus. You can watch glass-blowing classes taking place from outside or take home some local art for purchase from the Arts Center Store.

When visiting the heart of Mesa, Arizona make sure to stop in and support your local artists at the Mesa Arts Center.
